Venice- Tour of Lagoon's isles PDF Print Email

laguna-veneta-webIn the Lagoon there are still several isles that in the past had important roles, both defensive and commercial ones. Now the inhabited isles and the ones you can visit are: Lido (particularly suggestive with his historical seaside site that hosts Cinema's International Festival), Murano (with its famous blown glass), Pellestrina, Burano (famous for crochets manufacturing and very colorful houses, source of inspiration for several artists), Sant' Erasmo (with its gardens), Mazzorbo, le Vignole, Torcello (and his marvellous Cathedral with The Last Judgement mosaic, but with only 25 inhabitants), Mazzorbetto e San Clemente.

Other isles include some monasteries: S. Giorgio Maggiore, S. Lazzaro degli Armeni (famous for its valuable Pinacotheca and its collection of manuscripts ), S. Francesco del Deserto, a peaceful oasis or there are also: S. Servolo, la Certosa, il Lazzaretto Nuovo and S. Michele, the suggestive cemetery where Igor Stravinskij is buried.
