TITIAN "THE ANNUNCIATION" Print

tizianotrevisoTITIAN: Annunciation, 1520
oil on panel 210x176

The painting is located inside the Cathedral of Treviso, on the right side of the main altar, in the Mal Ink Chapel, built at the beginning of the century. XVI from the Lombardo, a family of Venetian sculptors and architects.
Broccardo Malerello was secretary of Bishop Bernardo de Rossi (great humanist and patron)
and right here he is buried surrounded by valuable works of art.
This Annunciation does not have a classical composition, it revolutionizes the iconography by shifting the position of the Madonna and the angel.
It will be the inspiration for Lorenzo Lotto's Annunciation in Recanati. Trad. G.S.
